Really, what does “gluttony” mean to you? How does it play into the life of an avid eater or gardener? Historically, excessive intake or thoughts of food were considered to be detrimental to spiritual life. Today, can careful thought about food actually be a benefit in that it helps protect other beings?

My vote: Yes, postive spiritual work can be done through healthful and consciously grown and eaten food. Thought alone does not equal a glutton, and by protecting our earth, neighbors, and bodies via the food system, we are showing devotion to protecting the natural resources given to us.
